The SHBV was founded in 1990. The main idea was and is to function as a platform for its members to facilitate access to emerging the market of health tourism. Members are spa towns of Saxony with their local political organization and administration, local companies and other parties with particular emphasis on spa medicine and medical wellness, rehabilitation hospitals, and organizations concerned with research & development and/or teaching & training in this area.

In addition, the SHBV provides assistance, coaching and consulting to its members for all issues concerned with conceptual and legal issues of the spa and spa medicine business.
